Abstract

This article describes a combination of interactive classification and super-sampling visualization algorithms that greatly enhances the realism of 3-D reconstructions of the Visible Human data sets. Objects are classified on the basis of ellipsoidal regions in RGB space. The ellipsoids are used for super-sampling in the visualization process.

    2021, Journal of Biomechanics
    Citation Excerpt :

The greater variation seen in actual subject measurements might be due to two main reasons: first, precision of the anatomical landmarks locations which depends on the user expertise (Wuhrer and Shu, 2013); and second, some actual measurements could not be performed properly as defined due to pliability of fatty tissues, slipping of measuring tape on the skin etc. High fidelity 3D human models have been created using the original transverse cross-sectional images of the VHP male subject (Höhne et al., 2001; Pommert et al., 2001; Schiemann et al., 1997). Creating such models typically involves labor-intensive manual segmentation work due to the difficulty of isolating tissues.

These datasets represent colored voxels (24 bits representing a red, green, and blue component). Thus, regions in RGB-space have to be separated [45]. For anatomy education, all anatomic structures, which can be derived from the image data, are relevant.

In addition, a spatial/symbolic model of inner organs [6] and a CVH brain image segmentation method [7] were also presented mainly depending on color information of tissues. Due to the non-uniform lighting between digital human slices and the complex composing of color information of tissues, the segmentation precision of color similarity based methods [4–7] will be influenced. The basic idea of the Voronoi diagram based method [8] is repeatedly to partition and classify an image based on Voronoi diagrams and experimental classification statistics, respectively.

  • Creation of a female and male segmentation dataset based on Chinese Visible Human (CVH)

2012, Computerized Medical Imaging and Graphics
    Citation Excerpt :

The sectional anatomical images of Chinese Visible Humans have been distributed as education and study tools for medical students and doctors. Extracting the contour of organs and contour definition, different tissues and organs can be applicable for different interest areas with greater and wider application to the medical and informatic fields [21]. In our segmented image dataset, almost all structures of the CVH male and female observable under direct vision were segmented, a process that can reduce lateral repeated tedious work and help with further uses.
